Bourton Vale Horticultural SocietyGardeners and growers have supported the Bourton Vale Horticultural Society over the past 127 years. The Society celebrated 125 years since its foundation at the Annual Show in 2014. 'At the beginning of the 1900s the categories of entry at flower shows around the county reflected class divisions within society and the Bourton show, organised by the local horticultural society, was no exception. The top attraction was a category open to professionals and gentlemen, next there was a section for amateurs, though etiquette required that gentlemen amateurs compete with the professionals. The largest category was reserved for cottagers. Then there were the allotment holders'. We are grateful to Michael Boyes of Little Rissington for allowing us to use this extract from his book 'A Victorian Rector and Nine Old Maids. A celebration of Cotswold Village Life'.
