HAWKESBURY GARDENING CLUB
Had its Official Launch Meeting at 8pm on 23rd June 2008
In Hawkesbury School Hall.

Our chairman, Liz Howard, welcomed everyone and introduced herself and the other committee members.

Liz also expressed her thanks to Mr. John Walker, a local landscape gardener for his generous donation of sparkling wine and to Deb Pidsley (see picture) for a superb cake to celebrate the official launch of the club.

The turnout of some 45 people for the evening surprised even the most optimistic of us.

Liz explained that the intention is to keep the business part of meetings to a minimum – say 15 minutes. The main focus will be on the speaker and to socialize and to talk gardening. To this end minutes of the last meeting will be placed on the notice board together with any other information that will need to be displayed – Club Constitution, insurances, etc.

The speaker will be expected to talk for around 45 minutes. There will be refreshments, raffle and a plant exchange.

Trips will be one function of the club but not the main one. Linda Robinson and Susan Bennett are the club reps for trips.

Our speaker for the evening, Mr. Barry Nash then told us all about Growing and Showing Fuchsias.

At the end of the evening the fully paid-up membership tally had reached 42 with several others who will come as guests if the speakers topic takes their fancy.

All in all a really good start for the club.

Our next meeting is on Monday 28th July 2008 when our speaker will be Mr. Don Everett whose subject will be Plants For Long Season of Interest.
